About the photographer

My name's Cameron Grant, I'm a live-performance photographer based in Melbourne, and I've photographed shows on the largest stages in the country, right down to cabaret cabinets that use milk crates for seats.

Artists are creatures of connection [myself included] and the "Australian Theatres Unveiled" series combines the urgency to document these buildings' rich cultural heritage that glorifies their unmatchable architecture, and evokes the emotion we feel when entering these venues.

This series of fine art photographs is for the people that make these venues operate: patrons, performers, ushers, and stage crew; we are all part of the story that makes up the thriving Australian theatre scene, and now you have the chance to own a piece of that story too.

The story behind the series;

Late 2023, and throughout 2024, I aimed to capture a photo series focussing on all the major music theatre venues across the east coast of Australia, highlighting iconic landmarks in Melbourne, Sydney, and Tasmania. In July/August 2024 I held my first exhibition to celebrate the work, and gauge the industry's interest to continue the rest of the country.

A huge range of high profile industry leaders, friends, and family attended across the exhibition dates. This included producers, managers, backstage hand, performers, choreographers, comedians, students, ushers; almost any role in the business, you name it, someone was there. Here's a few words that describe the immense support shown at the exhibition from those that visited.

The responses were electric and all consuming, with support from all across the country, and purchases of prints made from Perth Western Australia, right across to Perth Tasmania!

The beginning of 2025 saw me travel across from Sydney, through Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.

4 cities in 8 days, 18 different venues, 2,763 total photos, and 1 broken tripod leg, and I made sure to video record and document every step of the journey.

This series and what I plan to achieve with it is way from complete, but for now, I'm passionate and committed to documenting and elevating this art space, and I appreciate your support in every way possible.
